Kiihko Dance is a contemporary dance company founded by Marja Koponen and Geneva Rosett-Hafter. Marja and Geneva met at Laban during their BA studies and the idea of their own company matured as their final year of the program proceeded.
Kiihko Dance got its name from Marja's native language, Finnish. Kiihko can be translated into English in many different ways; passion, heat, intensity, and zeal to mention a few. All these represent the different shades of relationships the collaborators have with dance, movement and the medium of the human body.
In the mission statement of Kiihko Dance, Marja and Geneva specify their aims and motivation as a company. Kiihko Dance is about creating, experiencing and appreciating movement. It is a collaboration of two professional dancers teaching, choreographing and performing.
